Friday Noir: The Immortal Pulp Fiction Wake Up

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery….
Whoever the hell ‘they’ is.

Nothing too hard-boilded for this Friday Noir. Just thought I’d share something fun.
A couple of years ago, while reading Mark Coggins’ book The Immortal Game, I decided to do a bit of a tribute to it in noir fashion. I first came to “know” Mark through Flickr, and we emailed back and forth a bit about his photos and his books.
So, one Saturday morning I shot the above image on the left, and sent it to him. He really liked it, so I was pleased with that.
Then, a few months later, when another of his books came out, Mark aped the image I did, and did his own, enlisting is wife as well. His image is on the right.
The good guy that Mark is, when he posted the image of his femme fatal to his blog, he did give me a tip of the fedora.
Mark’s a great novelist and I urge you check out his books if you’re a fan of crime fiction, noir, and mysteries. And, a couple of year’s ago, he did a really nice job with a “newly found” Sherlock Holmes piece that ran in serial form in the SF Chronicle.
On top of all that, he’s a pretty good photographer too.
I’m hoping our paths cross some day, preferably in Mark’s home city of San Francisco, so that we can discuss noir and share some of that Maker’s Mark.

I owe you man! (Can’t help but notice your gun placement is safer!)
Maybe, but yours has better gams!
I’ll have to check Mr. Coggins out. Always looking for a good yarn…
Mark,
Nice gams…no, not yours…hers. Great images and back story.
