One Tough Mother.
The wench.
First day of Spring today. Or so the calendar said. That would mean I made it through yet another East Coast winter of raw weather, biting early morning wind, air so dry and cold it freezes the boogers to inside of your nose.
Yes, I tried to make the best of it. My Winterscapes Gallery project certainly helped to make lemonade out of really cold lemons.
But then I wake up today…truddle downstairs in sweats, put on some coffee…truddle to the closet to get the pullover sweatshirt and North Face fleece jacket, all the while being trailed by the two pups. I slip into the old Nikes that are now the dog-walking sneakers and what do my wondering eyes see?
Snow!
Big fat flakes coming down at 6:15 a.m. this morning. Whatttt???? It’s Spring! There’s no snowing in Spring!
Me and the two furry kids head out into the crisp air. We walk around the park, big flakes sticking to my fleece jacket and their fur jackets. Head back inside to pour that first cup (for me) and chomp some biscuits (for them).
By the time I rolled out of the garage about 40 minutes later, the sky was lighter and the flakes were bigger and fatter. Unbelievable.
Driving to work I thought that if this were rain, it would be pouring. Man, March really does bring madness.
As usual, I had my 20D next to me in the car. Like Chase Jarvis says, the best camera is the one in your hand. I took the opportunity to pull over on Route 130 next to these steel storage containers. I like the way they look, the symetry of them them. Maybe sometime I’ll do them justice. Today, though, they provided backdrop. Wanted to put some glass on these big fat waning-winter-first-day-of-spring flakes and the containers helped set them off. As did the nice fire hyrant, camera left.
Nothing too special about this capture. Lighten a little in post, pop the contrast abit. Done. Just the First Day Of Spring In New Jersey.
Big Fat Flakes, Larger Format.
By noon, it was all gone. Going to 60 and sunny by Sunday. But still….Mother Nature….you can be one tough mother sometimes.
But hey….just 15 days till Opening Night for my World Champion Philadelphia Phillies.
‘Nuff said.

I cannot relate to the snow but the photo is wonderful. The contrast of the red and green and the snowflakes make it seem like something from a distant memory. Almost like sepia but not so warm.
Enjoyed the snow shot and enjoy the blog. I swear there is a spring around here somewhere.
Lovely image, but . . . the Phillies? Yeah, I know where you grew up. Okay, I guess. What were you doing going to work on a Saturday?
No working on Saturday for me, Chris. Looks like my blog is having dating problems again (happened a few weeks ago too when it was stuck on the same day for, well, days….)
