At The County Fair
I walked outside earlier tonight, grabbed a two handfuls of night air and squeezed.
4 ounces of water poured out. I kid you not.
The dog days, as they say, are upon us. Hey, it’s August. Supposed to be like this. I’m not complaining (too loudly.)
After taking a half day last Friday, I was able to hang with the girls for a good amount of time. Friday evening, we took in the local county fair. Not OUR county, mind you, but the one just north of us.
It’s about community…
It’s about food…
It’s about an explosion of color…
An explosion of color AND smells. Man, that food smelled – and tasted – good. I have first dibs on the next 15+megapixel DSLR produced by either Nikon or Canon (probably Nikon) that, within the digital image file, captures the smell of the event as well. A scratch-and-sniff pixel, if you well. I could have used it on Friday.
We all had a great time, even Little Livvie who, after somewhat conceding the concept of gravity, realized that even helium balloons go *poof* in the evening air.
I wanted to approach the fair from a photojournalistic viewpoint, but this was a bit challenging for me. First, there was always my wife and little one exhorting me to c’mon catch up. Then, early on, I realized that between Wednesday night (when I spent a demoralizing 45 minutes trying to shoot a new noir piece to no avail) to Friday evening, something happened to the autofocus on my 20D. No matter what lens I put on, or what f stop I shot at, it cycles in and out but never captures a focus point. Looks like I’ll be heading to Jamesburg soon, but in the mean time, it’ll be all manual focus for me.
Ah well. Just get your camera in a new place and shoot, that’s what I say.
