Tying It All Up, Neat And Pretty
And so…this too must end.
No, not this blog or anything like that. Just the mondo project I’ve been working on for the past nine months.
Yes, in the amount of time that we could have given birth to a child, this project has come…and is now done.
I’ve said it before…working on my company’s annual report is one of my all-time favorite projects. First, I get a deep insight into all the businesses of a global, Fortune 500 company. And I get to help craft those stories. I also get to work with a top-rate creative design firm. The team here is equal parts compelling, innovative and fun. And finally, I have the best job – I get to work with some world-class photographers and help them get the best photos we can for this project.
And maybe best of all…I’m tasked now with taking this print publication on-line to more and more readers. Print isn’t going away – no way. But now I get to be really creative and see how we can deliver these company messages to more people through a variety of on-line and social media endeavors.
Yep. I love my job. I really do.
But this project – the one that took me to Russia and India in October. To Nicaragua in December. And to Japan and China in January, is now nearly over. The final stops were Cincinnati and Florence, Kentucky, in February.
As the calendar turns to March, I have some final work to do here in New Jersey. Most of all, though, I have to get ready for the new addition to my growing family, in late May. I’m putting the passport in the drawer, and the boots will stay in the closet. Time to tend to the home fires for awhile. But I’m still looking back at what the last week for me looked like.
It was another fantastic experience for me. I’ll still be sharing some photos from the road over the next few weeks. I think it’ll be fun to share some of the behind-the-scenes stuff and I’ll do so. Hope you like it too. And I’ve promised you my Cincy GOYA experience (you have GOYA’ed recently, right?)
In the meantime…if you ever wanted to see what printing 1.4 million copies of something was like….it’s like something like this…
It’s loud. It’s smelly. But, man, it’s pretty fun.
And it’s like the end of the rainbow.

Thanks for sharing Mark. Will you get to work on the annual report next year? I hope so. All that traveling will present many opportunities for us to see more of your wonderful images.
I don’t know yet, Sabrina. I certainly hope so too, though roles and responsibilities sometimes change. This was was the 7th report I’ve worked on in my career and I always enjoy seeing it from start to finish! Must be the old newspaper/magazine journalist in me.
Is there a .pdf? I would love to see one.
Great concept, and many thanks for taking the time to publish it; really opened my eyes for some new perspectives that I hadn’t thought of before.
