Friday Noir: Walk The Square

Life is a series of corners, ain’t it?

You can go right, or you can go left.

Sometimes you just keeping making lefts.

Ain’t no good reason, just what happens.

Then you end up where you are.

Could be with your hand in the till.

Or sticking your neck out for no one.

Or you got that gat in your hand, trigger cocked, finger tight.

Just maybe, you find yourself in a cool dark place with stale beer and hearbreak hanging in the air.

Behind three shots of rye and a short glass back of beer.

And it’s 8:30 a.m.

You walk the square, make another left.

Just hoping to find the light of day.

  1. Love the comment above. Describes it perfectly. I could swear that’s the notorious Navy Yard Cocktail lounge right here in brooklyn, just a few blocks north of where we live. Is it? Or is it more local to you? Awesome stuff Mark.

    • Ed, WAY more local to me than your area of Brooklyn. They’ve started to renovate an old BBQ near me on Route 130…this was under the original facade. I loved how it looked…
