Christmas Noir: Blast of Silence

(c)JerseyStyle_Photography_Blast of Silence_Stefan_1212013

Tires squeak on snow-covered streets.

The rising moon has skinned winter’s breath to it’s bone.

It’s midnight in Jersey, no time to get cute.

Walk tall, or don’t walk at all.

At this time of year, even the racket boys are in for the night.

So pour a cup – or four- of cheer.

Give me hope, give me strength.

Give my soul a night of fearless sleep.

The church bells will soon ring.

Blast the silence, the absolute silence.

Sleep in heavenly peace.

And so, with Christmas just around the corner, we’ve come to the last end of our Christmas Noir series. The Big Finish.

This is one of my favorite Christmas Noir images. It was crafted last year, when Stefan (I’ve talked about this amazing Parisian graphic artist/designer before) took a couple of my images and created this scene with them. Still blows me away at how he creates these scenes with my images. An incredible artist.

It’s always fun to create these images (or have help in creating them, in the case of this one), and writing the little stories that go along with them. Like I’ve always said, even during Christmastime, there’s a little noir going on.

Just watch – really watch – It’s A Wonderful Life sometime. A man gives up his life’s dream, toils at a job for years that he despises, tucks away all those goals and ambitions, becomes suicidal.

Doesn’t really sound like the feel-good hit of the Christmas season, does it?

Yet it is.

And don’t forget: If you want to carry a little Jersey Noir with you all year long, order A Bitter Little Year – The 2014 Jersey Noir Calendar. Might be tough to get it to you for Christmas now, but certainly before we pop the cork on the new year.
