Weekend Shot: Well, It’s Art
Took the kids to the Monmouth Museum yesterday. It’s a hands-on, fun museum for kids. They can play on and around a pirate ship, do arts and crafts, “excavate” dinosaur bones, learn about space and weather. A good place to spend couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon.
The Museum also has nice art museum which often highlights local artists. Their Emerging Artists series is exciting as it highlights the work of New Jersey-local artists.
That said, the sight that greeted us was just plain creepy. According to the museum staff, the artists works with a taxidermist. She then does a face mask of friends, turns the skin of the animal inside out and put its over them mask, then adorns it.
I was watching three kids, little waterbugs they are, so I missed getting the artist’s name. I don’t know where to be impressed or appalled.
[Editor’s Note: Found out this morning the artist is Brooklyn-based Kate Clark Check out her site for more of these distinctive pieces.]
But, I saw an older woman taking time, checking out the other pieces of art. When she got to this one, she paused for about 10 seconds before moving on. Guess she didn’t know what to think either.
But I got the shot I wanted.
And, well, it’s art.
