All Wet
I’ve hit 2015 running so just now getting around to doing my multimedia video for the 12 Annual Polar Bear Plunge.
But first, here’s a look at the kit that I take to these shoots. Nothing too exotic, all my workhorses:
* Canon 50D
* Canon S110
* 24-105 mm f/4 l
* 17-85 mm f/4
* 50 mm f/1.8
* Six CF cards, various sizes
* LED Light
* Notebook
* Lens cleaning rag
* Grip bag from the Eddie Adams Workshop.
I only used the 24-105 all day. A few snaps withe S110, but stuck with my favorite lens. Frankly, after doing this for seven years, I still screw up. I meant to hit the surf for the action pics with the 17-85 on my rig…and in all the excitement of getting ready, I forgot to switch. Luckily, no bad things happened.
I have to say again: I’m really impressed with Canon’s waterproofing. Me and my set up got pretty wet again and it held up well. People ask why not get a waterproof housing…well, I’m a gambler I guess. I’ll take my chances without one rather than kick out the cash on something I’ll only use once a year. Guess I can rent one; maybe I’ll look into that for number 8.
The true start to this shoot thought? These guys:
Second year in a row I’ve borrowed these waders from my fisherman father-in-law. Priceless, literally and figuratively.
Not shown above, another priceless garment – a black and green North Face coat my wife got me a couple of years ago. Works fantastic, and dries quickly.
Me in action…
One thing that was different this year – my hands got super cold. I don’t wear gloves as I want to make sure I have a good hold on the camera. But for some reason, they got wet and really cold. Took them some time to thaw out afterwards. Lips got pretty chapped to.
Without further ado, here’s the video from the 12th Annual Sons of Ireland Polar Bear Plunge (click here if doesn’t play for you below.)
(Much thanks to Point Pleasant, NJ’s own James Dalton for permission to use of his song Come Back To The Jersey Shore here.)
Till next year….
