Summer Project: Musicians & The Mosaic

There’s this hotel in Asbury Park – Empress Hotel.

It opened in the 1960s from what I understand. Judy Garland and Liza Minelli stayed there.

It was on the sleeve of Bruce Springsteen’s Hungry Heart album.

It’s got this great tile mosaic exterior wall that I love.

I’m starting a new Summer Project: Musicians & The Mosaic. (That’s the tentative title, at least)

The goal is to try to photograph as many musicians passing through AP this summer as possible in front of this wall.

Almost like an Irving Penn “corner portraits” project, or thebackstage portraits Danny Clinch does at the Grammys.

How many will I get to sit for me? Who knows.

Kiefer Sutherland and Shovels & Rope have already passed.

But…let’s get started on this Summer Project. What’s yours?
