We are all the captains of our burdens.

Noirvember is running out quickly, so I thought I’d give one more in my Jersey Noir series.
I’ve long said that smoke is like another character in these photos. But it’s like an untamed character – you don’t really know where it’s going to go.
Last night, I was watching The Maltese Falcon and there’s a scene where Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) rolls a cigarette and smokes it while he’s talking to Joel Cairo (Peter Lorre). I was just watching how smart the smoke looked circling around Spade.
And wondered how many takes they had to do so that it looked right and didn’t cover Bogey’s face.
Lighting specs: A Neewer 160 LED light in a Neewer 47″ softbox. They were set camera left and I was shooting my Canon 70D here.
