A Deck With A View

Empire view_052019

What’s on your travel list this summer?

For thousands (millions?) it may be to go to the top of the Empire State Building in NYC.

I crossed that off my list yesterday, after living in the NJ/NY area for almost 25 years. I had a meeting at LinkedIn and their offices are in the ESB. At the conclusion of the meeting, we had the opportunity to go up to the observation deck on the 86th floor.

It was a clear day, great views. I took a couple of laps around, snapped some cityscapes.

But my eyes were drawn more to the opera happening on the Observation Deck around me.

All the iPhones out, the selfie sticks erect. Some DSLR’s with long lenses, a few point-and-shoots.

And just a couple looking through the binocular stands.

Being up there was fun. No Cary Grant looking for Deborah Kerr, no sleepless Tom Hanks looking for a little kid, no king-sized gorillas swatting planes.

Just folks putting checks against things on their bucket lists.

And me thinking about Margaret Bourke-White perched on that eagle off the Chrysler Building way back when.

Fun to see the city, way up high. The lobby was cool, too.

  1. Great shots. I’m at my clients office on Wall Street today. I’ve got a great view of Brooklyn Bridge Park and took a lunch time stroll to Battery Park.

I keep trying to get my family to see New York with me but it’s like pulling teeth.

  2. Mark, You sure get around. Very nice pictures.
