Throwing It Back 20 Years

Joe McNally, London, January 2000
DATELINE: London
YEAR: January 2000
Twenty years ago, the world successfully avoided a Y2K catastrophe.
I was just a couple years into my corporate communications career and my boss sent me to Europe to oversee some annual report photoshoots.
To be done by Joe McNally.
Huh? Who?
There was no Google then. I may have had to Ask Jeeves who this guy was.
But I quickly found out.
And so, flying out of Newark International Airport , stack of paper tickets and boarding passes in hand, we set forth for a two week, five-country romp across Europe. The AR deadline was looming.
To say I was wet behind the ears is am understatement. Working with a big-time NatGeo/Sports Illustrated/LIFE magazine shoot?

*click* Having fun with this big-time photographer.
Lousy crop and all.
Now take one of me!

Me, London, January 2000
So, though I was toting around a disposable Kodak camera, my photography education formally started, even if I didn’t know it.
As did my friendship with now 20-year friendship with Joe.

Joe and I in Marburg, Germany, that same trip
Making prints then, making prints now.
Still, we’ve come a long way.
