Earth Day 2020

Grand Tetons, August 2019
Earth Day is 50 years old today!
I grew up at the base of a small mountain. Going for hikes with Dad on the weekend up those winding deer trails was a favorite activity.
I never got into fishing or hunting, but I do like hiking trails and “shooting”…with my camera.

While I love to do portraits and music/concert photography for the energy and action, there’s certainly something to be said for capturing the grandeur of nature.
Our trip out west last summer, to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone afforded my family one of our all-time great experiences. Honestly, I think about that trip daily (and still read online newspapers from Jackson Hole). It was truly that special to me.

Thinking about it even more this week as it is National Parks Week. And remembering how last year during this week, we were headed to Arizona and the Grand Canyon.
But, you don’t have to travel far to experience the wonder and peace that nature affords us. My boys – especially Chase – and I love to go across the street to woodland preserves in our area. I’m sure you have a local state or county park you can explore as well.
The famous naturalist John Muir said “In every walk with Nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” I’d have to agree with that.

Hopefully tonight, with a window open, I’ll be able to hear the spring peepers that call the pond by our house home. Maybe a breeze will come through the window, and I’ll wake up to that woodpecker that’s up early as well.
It won’t be Earth Day, but there will still be plenty to celebrate.
