The Beauty of the Quick Portrait

Look at this face. This hair.

How could I NOT do a portrait.

My son, Chase, had his friend Andrew over this past weekend.

First sleep over for both 10 year old boys.

They bunked out in the TV room watch superhero movies.

The next morning, after a quick breakfast and before Andrew went home, they jumped in the pool.

Andrew came out, long hair streaming, looking like a boy left in the jungle.

I quickly set up my white pop up background in the garage, both bay doors open for the natural light flooding in, and grabbed my Fuji X100T.

Knew what I wanted – the hair in the face. That sly smile.

A little overexposed.

Some color, some B&W. Nine shots total.

Andrew was done, and off to running back around with Chase.

All these friends that come through our doors now, I wouldn’t mind doing thirty-second portraits of all of them.

Kind of like the “visitor” portraits Gary Chapman did at one point few years ago.

But I’d have to be quick.

They don’t stay kids for long.
