TBT: Diwali 2009
A Throwback Thursday post…
In October 2009, I landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, just outside of Mumbai, around 4 a.m, arriving in via Russia through Turkey.
It was the start of Diwali and my first, and only, time in India.
I was as far from home as I ever thought I’d be. I had no idea what to expect.
We met our drivers, waited for all of our bags and gear and headed through the hazy early morning darkness to the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai.
By the time we arrived, it was nearly 6 a.m. My crew checked in, dropped our bags in our room, and met back in the lobby. The smell of marigolds filled the air as the lobby was filled with them.
We walked across the street to the Gateway of India. It took a few minutes to assimilate as my Canon lens to the humidity as it kept fogging up.
I shot the image above just after 6:30 a.m. And my incredible India adventure – on the first day of Diwali – began.
Happy Diwali to all those celebrating!
Just India into the search bar to read more posts from back the. Yes, I’ve been blogging a long time.
