Getting To A Higher Place

Horse Farm Morning

We gotta get to a higher place, and I hope we arrive together. ~ Tom Petty, Higher Place

I listened to a great podcast from my friend, Camille Conte, while out on a three-mile ramble this morning.

The podcast posted  on January 1, and it was really a nice way for CC to start the year – talking about giving yourself time to just decompress and de-stress from all that happened in 2020. (Camille had an especially hard year, losing her mother in the fall.)

Intermingled with her discourses, she weaves in power and uplifting music from Michael Franti, Ziggy Marley, Nina Simone, INXS, The Call, and, yes, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Listen to the podcast here.

As we get started on the journey that is this new year, new week, new day, keep striving to get to that higher place, wherever that is for you.

I shot the above scene with a little point-and-shoot Canon camera in September 2019, on the way home from taking my daughter to school.

It was in my thoughts recently as I just included it in my 2021 Allentown, New Jersey, calendar that a few people around town picked up as stocking stuffers.

As much as I love Printique, I find their calendar-making templates and program a bit clunky. So, I used MPIX to do this one, which I’ve used in the past.

It came out OK, but not without bumps. The first order of calendars wasn’t cut right, so there was a thin white strip running down four of the months. After complaining, MPIX graciously did a second run for me, which turned out fine.

I had a couple of other glitches with MPIX this time around. Not going to condemn them fully, as they’ve done nice work in the past. But, mistakes get to be costly in terms of time lost. I had ordered them in early December, then with the reprint, only very nearly got them to people in time for Christmas.

Anyway, as I was listening to Cam’s podcast this morning, and she played Tom’s song, my thoughts went this image for some reason.

Same shot, same camera, but in color. Which do you prefer?

  1. I prefer the B&W. The color distracts from the mood of the image.

As for the new year, we’re going to do our part to make it better.I have some classes on my main interests of radio, photography and guitar already going. I just have to squeeze in 40 hours a week for work.
