JSP Visual Week In Review ~ 09.18.21

Not going to lie.

I’m having a huuuuge FOMO weekend.

FOMO = Fear Of Missing Out

You see, it’s the big Sea Hear Now music festival in Asbury Park.

Billy Idol. The Avett Brothers. Patti Smith. Smashing Pumpkins.

Pear Jam.

You may remember, I shot it in 2019, after missing it in 2018. There was no SHN in 2020, of course.

I reallly wanted to get back in the game and shoot it this year. Even though I’m still pretty wary of big crowds.

I mean…Pearl Jam.

But, things didn’t work out for me. I wasn’t able to get a photo pass so that shot down my chances. (To be honest, I didn’t formally submit for one. But for a festival like this, you pretty much have to shooting for a publication and the publication I thought I’d be shooting for, well…it never came through for me.)

And, as it turns out, I have my kids this weekend. Between last evening, Friday, and Sunday afternoon, my boys have five baseball games.

So, there’s that.

But still…FOMO.

Aside from all that, I had a great week. I made some changes, personally, and within a few days, they’ve been paying off. Nothing I really need to get in to here, but just remember to be good to yourselves.

You’re all you got, in the end.

Summer ends here soon. Let’s push forward.

This Week’s Links:

What I Watched This Week: Creepshow on AMC. Reminds me a lot of the old HBO show from the ’80s. And that’s a good thing.

What I’m Reading This Week: Leaving The Scene by Dana King. Though they are set in a fictional Pittsburgh-area town, every time I read one of Dana’s Penn’s River books, I’m SO reminded of the Wyoming Valley where I grew up. I KNOW these characters and area descriptions.

What I Listened To This Week: Three episodes – David Byrne, Ira Glass and Ethan Hawke – of Debbie Millman’s Design Matters podcast. Highly recommend this podcast. I listen on Spotify. I found it by reading a Fast Company article, The 9 Best Podcasts to Make You More Creative.

Fast Company: The world’s most creative people have one thing in common

Japan’s Nobel Prize of Art: Goes to Sebastião Salgado

Read: An interview with photojournalist Alan Chin

Watch: Daniel Norton on unexpected inspiration

Watch/Listen: The Curious Society’s interview with David Burnett

Washington Post: Bathed in the color of light, the theatricality of New York’s subways

Jerry Saltz: 7 Artist Tips That Will Change Your Work Forever

Favorite Photo Of The Week: Via Scott Strazzante (again)

Hey, I don’t say it enough, but thanks for stopping by my little niche of the internet. The comments, likes, views, they all help keep me going. I’d probably do it without all this – this little electronic journal is over 10 years old now – but it’s nice to see the support!

Be kind.
