Interstate photoshoot the other week, when I had the chance to shoot the iconic grunge/hard rock band Stone Temple Pilots in upstate New York at the Orange County Speedway Event Center.

STP Frontman Jeffrey Adam Gutt

This band…such an integral part to my 1990s memories. Scott Weiland is never far away, though Jeffrey Adam Gutt does an amazing job on lead vocals now, and does a great job of invoking the passion and power that made STP so big in in the 90s.

Original band members – Robert and Dean DeLeo (NJ-natives both), and drummer Eric Kretz are still part of the band. In fact, bassist Robert DeleoΒ gave a nice New Jersey shout out on stage, which was cool.

Afterwards, backstage, he saw my Asbury Park Music Foundation (which says Music Saved Asbury Park) t-shirt, so we had a (very) brief chat, an nice NJ moment. Cool cat, that one.

Dean Deleo

Show was tight…and loud. Not the time to forget the earplugs…which I did.

Drummer Eric Kretz

This was the first time I’d ever been to Orange County, New York, which was about 2 hours from my place. The only thing I really knew about OCNY was from that show, Orange County Choppers, was on the Discovery channel a few years ago. I liked watching that show because of the creativity Paul Sr and Paulie Jr brought to bike building. But like all reality shows, its burned itself out. Anyway, since I was in the neighborhood, I thought maybe Paul Sr. would show up to the show, but no such luck.

The Setlist – looks like one from an earlier show, too.

STP Fans

This indoor event wasn’t super crowded, lots of open area. The pit area was nice and wide, and I stayed masked up anyway. This shoot was commissioned by Coastal Music Group, who I shot for when I did the Let’s Go Music Festival back in July. Always nice to have a return client!
