Friday Noir: The Color of Night
The night has a thousand stories, doesn’t it?
And not many of them good.
We keep beating on against the tide of this town.
But where does it all get us?
A little further on up the street is all.
Keep you chin up, have a drink on me.
We’re never going to end up the lucky ones.
Nobody wins.

Shot this about five years ago in a hotel in New York City. I was going through an old hard drive, looking for some portraits I once shot. Came across the raw file of this image and it intrigued me.
A few of the words in this caption are Brian Fallon lyrics. Brian is a Jersey guy, once the lead singer of The Gaslight Anthem (time will tell if they reunite.) His beat may be up, but his lyrics can be dark and moody. He released his second solo album this week, Sleepwalkers, and I’ve been listening to it a lot.
The title is play on one of the songs on that album. Though, it sounded familiar to me in my head, like I had heard it before. I guess I had, but it owes more to Fallon’s song than Bruce Willis.
My buddy Drew Gurain did the photography that landed him the cover of Brian’s album. The portraits are sweet, the album is pretty good, check it out.

Great image even if it is from the archives.
Thank you, David!
Great shot. Love Brian too.
Right on!
Sweeet!
Love this image, especially the light. However, the tilted lampshade makes it for me.
Thanks!!
